I am working with a woman, never pregnant, who is expecting to adopt a
newborn in one month. She has begun pumping and is planning to use a
supplementer device to feed the baby at the breast. I have provided her with
a lot of written material about adoptive nursing and spoken to her about the
fact that the amount of breastmilk she eventually produces is less important
than the relationship she will have with her breastfeeding baby. She
understands this and is fortunate to have a very supportive husband and one
close friend. She has attended several meetings of my LLL group. I am able
to connect her with a local mother who used a SNS long-term because of
insufficient milk supply and can help her with SNS kinds of questions. Since
we cannot locate any adoptive moms who have nursed locally, she would like to
correspond with another adoptive breastfeeding mother to get mother-to-mother
support. She has no computer but I could set her up a guest on my AOL
account. She lives nearby and could come over to send and retrieve messages.
If any LACTNETTERS who are adoptive nursing moms are willing to correspond
with her by private e-mail to give her this mother-to-mother support, please
reply to me by private e-mail. Thanks. Julia Griffith, LLL Leader, Toledo,
OH
