Dear Amy,
Why on earth should a poor baby have to eat with a blanket over his head?
Because some people might be so confused that they believe that there is
something "sexy" about it, and therefore "shameful"?

My goodness! We tolerate nearly anything on the TV, the beach, movies and
on the street, but we want to censor moms who are only doing what is best
for their babies?

It is well known that our medical expenses would be far less if more women
breastfed, because their babies are healthier. Perhaps more would, if they
felt comfortable enough that they wouldn't be stared at, have rude comments
made to them, and asked to leave, or "do that in the bathroom", by
incredibly ignorant people.

A mom should never be made to feel that she is a social pariah and should
stay home, just because she is making the intelligent loving decision to
breastfeed her baby.

Why on earth do people generally feel free to intrude upon a new mom's
privacy with comments anyway? Mom's are given unsolicited advice from
complete strangers about anything from properly dressing baby, feeding
baby, and burping baby to asking if she got pregnant "naturally"!

Give moms a break, most are doing the best they can and love their
children. Let them get on with their job, motherhood. It's tough enough
without all the criticism.
