My way of acting globally is raising children to save the world. I would
rather say, "If you are in a position to write a cheque, do it." Not all
of us are. The idea of service is that we contribute however we can. I
contribute far more time than money. Let's see: I am qualified to be
working at a job that would pay $30. an hour, but instead I help mothers
breastfeed their babies for about 10 hours a week. Someone else might
work at that other job and donate a fair bit of money instead. That's
all fine with me. What I am more interested in is the way that tax money
is directed to things far less significant than breastfeeding and
supporting women in their mothering. If we could put mothering on the
political agenda, the world would look a lot more normal.
