Please read and respond to this physician and to the list. Thanks. Kathleen

Dear Ms. Bruce:

I am a family practice MD. My friend and colleague has just been
diagnosed with melanoma over the distal third metatarsal. The depth of
the lesion is uncertain -- additional pathologists are reviewing the
slides. She is scheduled for surgical resection next week. There is no
current evidence of metastatic disease.

She is 9 weeks post partum and breastfeeding. One of the consultants
has recommended that she discontinue breastfeeding. She would strongly
prefer to continue. She has asked me to research this issue ASAP.

I would be grateful for any information or references you might have on
this issue. I would also appreciate the names of any other contact
persons who might have information regarding breastfeeding with
melanoma.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Holly Hauser, M.D.
