<< replying...... to the list is the seeming eagerness to take a phrase or
part of a reply or someone's experience and, with a sense of superiority,
attack the position with an air of, "whoever would do such a thing" or
"whoever would say (or think)
such a thing," Or "Have you read the standards of practice of our
organization?".........this personal criticism of working style or personal
experiences in one's work. ......>>

writers of the type of post described above may be: professionally
inexperienced, or emotionally immature, or strongly opinionated, or lacking
self-confidence or self-esteem, or impulsive, or passionate but negatively
impatient with what they percieve as inexcusable ignorance, or just in a Bad
Mood that day, or unintentionally amusing.

i like most of the spirited debate that occurs on lactnet. yes, it does
sometimes cross a line and you feel for the person that a harsh/poorly
worded/personal attack reply is directed toward. if a reply of the above type
is offensive to a reader, it may be helpful to just ignore these types of
replys, or talk yourself out of taking them personally. or treat them as you
would elderly person - poor thing doesn't know any better, or an unknowing
child, ripe for learning from the examples of other posters who reply
appropriately/constructively.

hopefully lactnetters are not stiffeled or intimadated by these types of
replys.

idea for an ilca session: "the productive debate".

lactnet can provide opportunities for professional growth, not only in
practice, but also in areas of interpersonal working relationships and
professional communication and debate.
