Hello wise ones,

Can someone help me out! 
If a BABY (+6months) has a cold sore (herpes) is it ok for the mother to carry on putting the baby to the breast. I understand that it is possible that the mother can become infected this way (from Lawrence), but would this be a problem for any future neonate? 
My thoughts are that the mother is probably already infected (although infection could come from other members of a family etc), or that the mother gets infected via the breast before she even realises the baby has a cold sore That in the future the chance that the mother develops active herpes lesions (if she ever gets them on the nipple / areola) on the nipple / areola at the same time that she gives birth to a second child is probably very small. Thus I should think that it is possible for the mother to carry on putting a baby with a cold sore to the breast even if the mother herself is not a herpes carrier?

Interested in an definitive answer which I can't find any contraindications for in the literature. Just to be clear it is the BABY who has the cold sore!
