Hear, hear, Kathleen!  Points about letting employed moms be moms, costs of
not breastfeeding, and guilt vs. risk well made!

My DIL (not yet a mother but very attentive) sent me the link to the
article.  I replied:

Formula isn't evil.  It's a useful substitute for human milk.  What's evil
is the way it is marketed to crowd out the competition, and the way it's so
much more available than timely help to establish and maintain
breastfeeding.  Evolution means that breasts shut down production if milk
is not removed, as if the baby has died and the mother's body is conserving
resources for the next attempt at passing on her genes.  This means the
formula company then gets the monopoly on feeding the child because the
breasts are driven out of business-- usually in less than a week!

I'll see what the reaction is.
