To Jenny: R/T greeney blue ooze from nipple:
Sounds like duct ectasio, so-called comedomastitis. Common between ages 35
-40. Most common in women who have lactated. According to Lawrence it is from
an irritating lipid which forms in the ducts producing an inflammatory
reaction and nipple discharge. Sometimes associated with burning pain,
itching, and swelling of the nipple and areola. She states that as the
disease progresses, a mass may develop that mimics cancer and chronic
inflammation leads to fibrosis. But surgery is not indicated unless the
discharge becomes bloody. Treat it with cleaning & then avoidance of nipple
manipulation.
I had this phenomenon 9 years after I lactated my fourth child. I stopped the
manipulation of the nipple and the greenish ooze stopped. I did not feel a
"mass". If I had, I would have had it checked out.
