We are once again facing controversy on breastmilk storage containers. We
have been using syringes to store colostrum (when it is 10 cc's or less),
2oz sterile water bottles when milk starts coming in, then giving the
parents a box of Breastmilk Storage Bags to get them started as their
supply increases. We have lost our suppy of sterile water bottles, and in
speaking to the formula rep today found out that they don't wish to provide
the hospital with bottles to be used for breastmilk. They now have 2
different sizes of breastmilk storage bottles which they will be happy to
provide, at a cost to the hospital. She is to get me information on the
composition of the bottles, but says they have researched and found that
they are suitable for EBM, and their water bottles are not.
