I assume she is just pumping? And that she is on ibuprofen for pain? You might suggest that mom take some magnesium which might help to lessen the pain of the let down. As well as extra vitamin D to help her fight infection, especially if she is deficient. If she is prone to backing up of milk in the ducts, applying a vibrating Sonicare toothbrush over the site of congestion can help keep milk moving. Be careful with any kind of massage over the wounded area. And of course, rest and fluids are essential. She also needs to be able to feel supported in her decision to discontinue breastfeeding/pumping.
