Hi all,

I've posted before about my friends grandtr born with a congential heart
defect. She is holding her own as they say, waiting for her wbc to go down so
they can schedule open heart surgery. They started tube feeding the baby
breastmilk and pediatlite on friday and I just got the pump back!!! Mom
stopped pumping nine days ago. Someone at childrens hospital told her she
already had enough milk saved for three months. I do not blame this mother
for giving it up I blame the medical staff she is dealing with every day.
Someone should have told her how important it is and all the advantages. I
feel very bad about this.

I also got a pump back from a pt who we were working with whose baby never
latched on and she has given up. Pump and feed routine is too much work.
This mother had a wonderful milk supply and on the advice of her board
certified obs stopped cold turkey. "You have a choice, be miserable for 24
hours or drag it out and be uncomfortable for days." I wish these women
would learn to call us for Lactation questions!!! I need to have a little
chat with this doc.

Jane
