I missed the start of this thread, but wanted to pipe in that I have  found 
myself most comfortable talking to moms about formula by comparing formula  to 
medicine.  All medicines have side-effects --- I explain why not to use  if 
you don't have to (thanks Marsha Walker).  Then we talk about how  sometimes the 
medicine is needed despite the risks --- e.g. the baby  needs extra calories 
and there isn't enough breastmilk available for use.... So,  in some cases the 
benefits of using some formula outweigh the risks of not using  it.  Oh, and 
we never use medicine longer than needed, right?
