I think if we were able to get info about Social Marketing they would be the people who could tell us more about this school of thought. In sales you sometimes try to use fear to sell things....but in social marketing you say things like "Most babies in Brattleboro are breastfed." These programs have been used to good effect with drinking in colleges: I think I remember something called the "4 or Less" program that had posters saying that "most students at this college keep their drinking down to 4 or less drinks."
 
Loving Support has a big social marketing component - Cathy Carrothers, are you lurking?? And the archives have a bit of info as we discussed some of these ideas back in 1999!
