Hi,
I just had a dad return a pump who mentioned that his wife is still
nursing their 6 week old, but now only on one side because the other
side just dried up spontaneously. He said she had been able to pump 3 -
4 ounces from both breasts at first and had been nursing from both
sides, switching sides whenever the baby wanted to burp, etc. Then all
of a sudden sometime last week one breast would only give enough milk to
just cover the bottom of the bottle while double pumping and then went
to nothing. The other side continues to produce plenty of milk. I can
understand if there was an anatomical variation, the milk supply should
have been different from the beginning (I would think) or if there was a
stimulus variation, which the dad has denied. Has anyone else ever
heard of this occuring, or know why it may have happened? Her OB said
it does happen, although rarely.
Thanks
