Wow, what a discussion. I'm a Mass-going Catholic and very "religious" (if
you mean "spiritual"), and I completely consider it my duty to tend to my
little ones like gifts to be cherished. My faith tradition teaches me to
think for myself and use my free will. That's what I get from it.

Jessica might be bashing the church-goers a little much, but I think she's
mainly bashing the Ezzo-followers. From what I see from my clients and
friends who pick up Babywise is that they actually aren't very
religious/spiritually-grounded at all (and this is just a personal
observation), just want to lay some sort of foundation now that they have a
child. I think that's admirable for anyone to try to lay whatever spiritual
foundation they feel that fits their thirsts.

They think this is the only Christian parenting book or Biblical parenting
way out there. Just like women who pick up WTEWYE think that the hospital
is the only place to birth safely. They are total neophytes at pregnancy,
birth, infant feeding and parenting (weren't we all at one point?). Dr.
Bill & Martha Sears have a great Christian parenting book out there, and I
hardly think anyone would put a scheduling label on them! So not everyone
who is "religious" is an Ezzo follower and not everyone who is an Ezzo
follower is "religious."

<<Good Grief, Jessica. Don't you think that is a little harsh? While I
agree that what you wrote (below) appears to be Ezzo's belief, and I know
that Ezzo has some followers who agree with him, you seem to be saying that
all others who are "religious" (your quotes) believe him. Many (I venture
to say most)of us who are religious consider a baby to be a divine gift and
breastfeeding to be the way God plans for us to feed our babies. Many
religious people would agree that following our mothering instincts is a
Godly way to meet the babies needs and that going against the way God made
us would be going against God's will.>>
