Friends
One of the legal nurse listserv that I have been on does not allow
archives and every one who wishes to join answers a questionnaire and
then the list owner decides if the person should join. They have very
strict rules and it works well because you know the members have all
been approved or they would not be on the list. I would suggest we
keep the archives restricted and also the membership. Although I have
been on this listserv since it was a 3 month old baby, I believe it was
started in March 1995 and I joined in June. I really have not seen any
major conflicts or problems. Yes we have had the occasional person who
wished to cause problems but soon they moved on or were booted off the
listserv
Just my thoughts.

Subject: Restricting archives and listserv access

I don't think it makes any sense at all to re-sub and restrict access to
posting, *without* also restricting access to the archives. Right now,
if
anyone wants to read any post, they do not have to be subscribed. They
just have to go to the archive website and they can read all the posts,
even right after they are posted.

Again, it makes no sense to do the one without doing the other.

Re dead addresses, the listserv is set up so that "dead" addresses are
automatically deleted, so that really isn't an issue.

My personal preference is for restricting access across the board.
