Hello. Any thoughts on this mother with *monthly* breast infections for
close to two years?

Mother nursing second child (21 months) has had breast infections every 30
days or so since baby was 4 weeks old. Illness lasts 4 days- 2 severe and 2
recovering. There was one break, in June, July and Aug of this year. (Mom
knows of no changes in her routine) Most episodes have been bilateral, until
this Sept. Since then largely centered on right breast. Onset includes very
tender scalp one week beforehand. Then, swelling/pressure in vaginal area,
neck tension, aching skin, then onset of fever and chills, all within approx.
one hour. Mother is then very ill, and breast/s become painfully swollen,
not hard, with random blotchy red areas. These areas feel "like a bad
bruise." No lumps or plugged duct-like symptoms. Lower back hurts. MD
prescribes Cefzil 500mg twice a day, 7-10 days. (mom has taken it about 20
times!) MD says this is not hormonal. BTW, last month MD suggested using
moist heat on breast at onset. Mom took heating pad to bed, and woke up in
AM with reduced symptoms and 2 day duration instead of four. Mom is 3 weeks
pregnant and worried about further use of antibiotics and fevers.
