Some concerns I have about the proposed Code of Professional Conduct (CPC):

1. When I was in college (ages & ages ago!), I signed the honor code, and pledged to "not lie, cheat or steal, nor tolerate those that do". The omission of the following tenet from our old Code of Ethics (COE) in the new COP is of concern:
IBLCE Code of Ethics Tenet #22. Accept the obligation to protect society and the profession by upholding the Code of Ethics for International Board Certified Lactation Consultants and by reporting alleged violations of the Code through the defined review process of the IBLCE.
I believe a profession needs to "police" itself to keep standards high & "protect the public" as Liz Brooks mentioned.

2. Use of the word "encourage" with regard to adherence to the WHO International Code of Breast-milk Substitutes just lets IBCLCs off the hook. Without any "teeth" in our own code of professional conduct, how can we even have a hope of getting anywhere?

I will definitely send my feedback to the IBLCE & hope that many of us do. I was able to access the old COE by typing in keyword "IBCLC code of ethics" if you need it to compare.
