Heather makes a point I have pondered many many times. I cannot express how 
nice it is to see another mind considering this reality. Not one single 
thing about how much babies "need" to eat and grow for their own "individual" 
needs is out there.

  This triggered my attention and provoked thoughts.
  I think we should start using scales and testweighing irst on thriving, well developping and growing infants inorder to realise a standard of intake. I think what we need is a as large as possible testgroup of healthy babies in as many geographical and cultural sites as possible and just observe, weight and note what, when and how much the eat at breast.
  Unless we know that, I think weighing the feeds of non-thriving infants is a crippled tool. It does weight and tell us some, but not in which way that is good or not.
  But who is to pay for such a research project that won't make money for any industry ... Scale industry, perhaps?
