Elise-

One of the things I like to tell the mothers and fathers in my LLL group
is that the father is the first person to demonstrate to the baby that
food does not always equate love. Babies are oral, they demonstrate how
much they love you by nursing. Later (like 5 mos or later), they realize
that something in their mouth feels good, so they want you, the nursing
mother, to feel good, and they stick their fingers in your mouth to give
you one of those free dental exams... know what I mean? But I digress.

Another option is to leave the offering of first solid foods to dad,
although the timing of that should really be according to the
appropriate guidelines (that is, not until the first half-year of life).
It may seem like a long time for Dad to wait, but put it in perspective:
6 months in the life of someone who, in the developed world, is likely
to live to be more than 70 years of age is really not that long. I have
used a tape measure to demonstrate this little fact to great effect,
where one cm or one in (depending on which country I'm doing this in)
represents one year.

Good luck, and I hope there are many more suggestions.
