I strongly agree with Katherine Dettwyler that it is helpful to have a
general knowledge of cultural anthropology concepts.  Being able to look
at culture helps us to get outside our own a little bit, and be able to
examine our assumptions and beliefs more objectively.  Cultural
anthropology was the single most enlightening course I ever took, and
that's saying a lot.  Liked it so much, I minored in Anthropology.
