This is a new drug for me and is not in Hale 1999-2000 or archives. Have any
of you dealt with it or know about it and breastfeeding? It is used for
migraines.

It is called Migranol (dihydro ergotamine mesylate) by Novartis. It is used
intranasally. Package insert says 10 hour 1/2 life, PB 93% VD is 800. Each
ml containes 4 mg dihydro ergotamine mesylate, 10 mg. caffeine, 50 mg
dextrose, 1 ml water. Archives from Tom Hale says do not use ergot
containing products (ex cafergot). This is an ergot product. However, it is
not used orally. Does it make a difference in this case with nasal
absorption? Is less used or has less of a full body reaction?

It also reduces prolactin. This baby is now 6 months old.

Insert also carried details about oral ergots. It makes me wonder it they
extrapolated oral response to nasal response. (I have not seen insert - mom
read parts of it to me on the phone)

It doesn't sound like it goes with breastfeeding, but thought I'd check with
you all before I gave mom a definitive answer.

Thanks so much!!

Kirsten
