We survived the hurricane with minor damage to the house and many streets
blocked with large trees.  My daughter and family evacuated from the Outer Banks
with most of their belongings but not furniture. She isn't sure if the house
is still standing because all communication is cut off from Hatteras to the
mainland. She is without electricity and water where they evacuated to, but since
she is breastfeeding, the baby hasn't even noticed the emergency.
The Red Cross was showing on TV earlier in the week how to prepare an
emergency kit which included powdered infant formula. Tonight the TV interviewed one
young mother and her 7 week old who was evacuated and the mom said all she
needed was water for her baby and she was ok. I resume she was referring to
fixing bottles.  So that was 2 TV ads for artificial feeding and none for
breastfeeding.  Maybe we can get my daughter interviewed to discuss how easy it is to
breastfeed your baby during a major hurricane!
