About Remicade: I've worked with one mother who was treated with Remicade while breastfeeding, and on the advice of a sympathetic pediatrician her baby was checked, several times, to see how much of the drug was passing through (blood tests). None of the tests found Remicade in the baby's blood. I don't think her milk was tested. She had an entirely normal breastfeeding course, breastfed exclusively for at least 6 months and was very happy to know that the baby was unaffected by her medication because there was no doubt she needed to be on it.
I think this case was reported in to our national database of case reports about drugs and breastfeeding too. It really helps when cases are documented because there is not much else to go by, and each reported case strengthens the confidence of all involved, that breastfeeding can go on as usual.
