I was interested to read in the latest JHL of a case study of a patient
with an undiagnosed gastrointestinal problem who was treated with
breastmilk and recovered. I am currently involved in the management of an
adult female with severe gastrointestinal problems including abdominal pain
and nausea and vomiting to the point of needing IV therapy for dehydration.
She has been seen by a large number of specialists and has been diagnosed
as suffering from a motility disorder and chronic fatigue.
She is willing to try anything. We have suggested that we give breastmilk a
try and have arranged a donor who is currently being screened for Hep B and
HIV.
Could I have input on this?
How many of you have experience with this sort of situation?
How much breastmilk would you give?
Over what period of time would you give it before you judged it a success
or failure?
Should we try a blind cross over study treating her with placebo breastmilk
(If it is possible to make such a thing) as well?
I know we have discussed this before, however it would be good to have a
new discussion in the light of the recent JHL article.

I look forward to your responses.
