FYI.  In reading the November 1995 issue of the AAP News ("The official
newspaper of the American Academy of Pediatrics"), they report their
votes on resolutions at the 1995 AAP Annual Chapter Forum in
September.  Of particular interest:

#6.  BREASTFEEDING AS AN ACADEMY POLICY.  Submitted by
Nebraska Chapter.  Resolved, that the Academy advocate that electrical
breast pumps be made available through medical plans and third party
payers, and be it further Resolved, that the Academy recommend that
time be given to the mother by her employer during her work hours to
use breast pumps."  Disposition:  ADOPTED."

"#56.  PUTTING MORE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE ACADEMY AND THE
FORMULA INDUSTRY.  Submitted by Habib Rathle, MD.
Resolved, that the Academy gradually sever all financial ties between it
and the infant formula industry over the next five years.  Disposition:
DEFEATED"

"#7. INITIATIVE TO ENHANCE AND INCREASE BREASTFEEDING OF
INFANTS IN THE UNITED STATES.  Submitted by David A. Cimino, MD.
Resolved, that the Academy, through the appropriate committees and its
Washington office, develop initiatives to increase the incidence of
breastfeeding by awareness, education, and a cash rebate or tax credit
to breastfeeding mothers.  Disposition:  DEFEATED."
