Frankly, those caring for a new baby who have not just given birth (without
interference of drugs or caesar) and who are not breastfeeding are at a
distinct disadvantage. Certainly some will be able to "make up" for this
disadvantage but others will not. It is one of the jobs of hormones to
influence behaviour and although we may like to think that we are purely
rational beings we are not. Yes, it's harder to make up and I can speak
about this as an adoptive mum who did not give birth to her second child, I
was at a distinct disadvantage in caring for her without the priming of
pregnancy and childbirth and she was at a huge disadvantage because of her
history....recognising this disadvantage is actually helpful in working out
how to overcome it....of course breastfeeding can help (and it certainly
helped me and my daughter) and all the people you listed could breastfeed
and yes it would help them!
