Well the Ezzo program has finally hit my church in a big way -Class with 30 +
couples. So I decided I needed to attend. This is a MEGA comittment for me as
I am in the midst of moving, planning the FLCA conference, and it runs 17
wks. I could not believe that on the first night I counted five couples I had
counseled as new parents, including sitting next to me - the couple whose
baby ended up hospitalized at 2.5 wks ppm, 2 lb under birth weight about one
year ago. They had been following the Preparation for Parenthood guidelines.
This class is Growing Kids God's Way. On week two I was called a nitpicker by
my instructor because I wanted to have a clear definition of the difference
in a 9 mo old signing he wants out of his high chair by arching his back or
real sign language for "down". And was this an issue of obedience or table
manners. I have never called any person attending any of my classes insulting
 names.
The worse part is watching Mr Ezzo for over an hour on video- he requested
that we make a covenent relationship with him-get real!
I have learned that I am not by his definition a permissive parent and that I
have developed moral principles in my children by explaing to them why we do
or don't do things ( I just thought that was a given for logical parents).
He also is really into this teaching toddler's to sign as communication which
I see as a positive- don't we teach babies to cue by rewarding that behavior
(although I'm sure Mr Ezzo wouldn't like that example). I Really think this
is a good solution to babies' words for wanting to nurse- like the sign for
drink or milk. I know my 6-12 mo old could have learned that and then they
wouldn't have been yelling MILKIES in the grocery store.
Thanks to everyone who mailed me info - I just hope that by giving more info
to the elders in my church I can prevent any future classes.TIA if anyone has
any other material they can e-mail.
Debby KearneyIBCLC in wonderful Orlando -a perfect day for our Winter Park
Art Festival- Favorite exhibit is some illustrator for Playboy who does
gigantic nudes- my daughter pointed out the nipple ring on one after dragging
me excitedly about 10 feet! Amazing these LC children! The crowd did wonder!
