Hello colleagues

PTP

I have been involved with a mother who is now 16 days postpartum and developed a breast abscess that had to been excised.

The surgeon informed her that she will need to stop breastfeeding on that side so it can heal quickly, I have NEVER heard this before, so colleagues I have looked all through my text books and they all say the same keep breastfeeding or expressing and the breast will heal. The difficulty now is to get this women to trust what I am saying is evidence based.

Any thoughts or research that you may want to share, can you tell from my tone I am really upset that this mother has been given incorrect information that has impacted on her breastfeeding.

Sincerely
June Nicholls
