Mothers in preterm labor or admitted to the high risk floor for any reason at 
< 32 weeks should be tested BEFORE delivery.

If for some reason they aren't, yes, we will use the colostrum until the test 
is back - usually minimal trophic feeds at that point.

NO difference if mom breastfeeding another child at delivery.

All pumped milk should be labelled with the name, MR number, date and time 
pumped anyway - just put it directly in the freezer when pumped.  

There is nothing magic about 24 hours - it was based on the limited available 
research, but my virologist says it is the freeze-thaw cycle that inactivates 
most of the CMV - so time is irrelevant.

Once infants go to breast (kangaroo care, "dry" breastfeeding or true 
breastfeeding) don't worry about it - don't need to restrict breastfeeding until 32 
weeks.  Just freeze the pumped milk.

There is no "magic" cutoff date.  32 weeks was chosen as there have been no 
case reports of SYMPTOMATIC CMV disease after 32 weeks.

If mom is CMV neg, don't retest her (unless the infant develops an illness 
consistent with CMV - VERY rare).
