Dear Friends--

I went and looked at about the first 20 cases on the breast augmnetation
site. I have a couple reactions:

1) For years, I have been telling my daughter that very thin and
well-endowed women we see on the beach and at the gym have had
"inserts." Now I KNOW I am right.

2) the tuberous/tubular breast pictures remind me of something I have
wanted to share for a long time. I have a cousin with classic tubular
breasts--she looks like an exam question photo. BUT, she has
successfully breastfed 4 healthy thriving babies (not at the same time)
and had abundant milk. She even donated milk. She breastfed one for 3
1/2 years, nursed through a pregnancy and tandem nursed for a little
while. Luckily no one told her that she "couldn't". I also have a close
friend with tubular breasts who, after initial problems getting started,
nursed successfully for 4 years. In the second case, I bit my lip and
did not suggest supplementing at week 2 when the baby was below birth
wieght. I was sure she wouldn't be able to make enough milk with her
anatomy--but she did just fine. THe baby was a totally breastfed
butterball at 6 months. The moral of my stories: anatomy (even tubular
antomy) is not necessarilly destiny. Don't assume that tubular breasts
don't "work" until they reallly don't work.

3) One of the cases has notes that the woman wanted to acheive the look
she had when lactating. To think that engorgement is fashionable!

If you haven't installed kiddie software that makes the site
inaccessible, go take a look. The "before" pictures are great--how many
of us get to see tons of natural non-lactating breasts on nulliparous
women?

Warmly-
Juy Gelman
