"Please review my letter to the editor in Birth, March 2004.? There are many intelligent,
well-informed?women who weigh the evidence and the risks, and decide that a cesarean section
is the best choice for them."

Even if this is true, Nancy, should we be more respectful of the choices of these woman than those of women who choose otherwise? ?

"Please do not condemn all OB-Gyn's. all doctors and hospitals, because they come to different
conclusions than you do, looking at the same "evidence".? I really believe that everyone wants
to do their best for their patients - but there is honest uncertainty and disagreement as to
what is "best" for any given person."

I do not believe that, having been present while a thoroughly intoxicated OB delivered my sister's baby (eventually was forced to retire).
But, I do believe that most have good intentions. Still, how would an LC be able to support breastfeeding in a broad range of situations,
having never experienced or even witnessed normal feeding. By the same token, how can anyone presume to support women in birth who
has never experienced or witnessed normal birth? So, from what position of knowledge, skill and integrity have these doctors looked at
the evidence and from what position have they decided that they have the right to control women's choices and their experiences.

"I do not believe that all, or even most, OB-Gyn recommendations are financially motivated.? As
a neonatologist I am paid relatively well , but I would never practice neonatology for the
money! - you have to love what you do and believe you are helping people - to justify the risks
I take every day!"

I agree with you, but I do think the position of ACOG is financially motivated. So, I stand by my original comment:

"That's what scares ACOG most--women who think."
