Hi All,

I posted a couple days ago about the mom whose Dr told her to use bag balm
and aquaphor on her irritated and oozy nipples. The Dr did at least do a
culture. He called mom today and told her the culture was negative for what
he cultured for - thrush and bacteria/staph.

Now what? Nipple and areola (where the pump parts are) are pink and
irriated, they itch and burn, they ooze and blister (not where the flange
touches) and hurt like heck. She is using bactroban, hydrocortisone and
miconozole and is looking for Gentian Violet to treat for thrush. I am at a
loss.

The flanges I fit her for personally - they fit fine. She is using the
Pumpin Pal shields. When I first saw here she had been dealing with
blisters on her nipples that were HUGE. She was in the same discomfort
(more so) then as she is now. The blisters were on the tip of the nipples -
not where the flange was touching. After switching out to the Pumpin Pals
and getting the bactroban, hydrocortisone and miconozole and treating with
this for about a week she had noticeable improvement. Redness started going
away, blisters stopped showing up entirely. She was nearly pain free. Then
all of a sudden it came back. The only thing she changed was that she had
stopped the APNO - but she can't remember exactly when.

I am stumped - I don't know what else to offer her. If the cultures came
back negative - what does that mean? That she just has irritated nipples??
I have pics she sent me and can send them to someone who can take a good
look and give me some feedback. I have her permission to share.

Thanks for any thoughts or ideas - she is miserable.

Warmly,

Jaye
