How can it be breech of confidentiality if you are caring for this mother
with Hep B.
Surely it would be in both the baby's and the mother's notes. At least here
in Australia it is,so that we can make sure the baby has the correct
treatment according to the latest Health Policy and Procedure for babies
both to mothers who have Hep B or have had Hep B in the past.

If the mother herself tells you any of this information it isn't breeching
confidentiality any way.If she wants to breast feed,it's her right to check
with someone else such as the nursing staff caring for her and baby or to
approach a lactation consultant about the latest information.

Don't these people keep up with the latest information, particularly the
infection control person and the GI(is that gastrointestinal or what) DR,
surely commonsense would tell them to check the latest Hep B information for
breastfeeding mothers. Why were they even brought into it .

Do you not have a Hep B policy and procedure to follow in your hospital .
