Diane described a varicosity in her co-leader's breast. I wonder if this
could be Mondor's disease? My (old) medical dictionary describes this as
"inflammation of large subcutaneous vein crossing the lateral chest region
and breast, appearing as a tender cord." Some time ago I had a mom
breastfeeding her second baby with something similar, an enlarged vein on
the inner quadrant of the right breast. She reported that it was so
enlarged when she was nursing her first baby six years previously that the
skin split. There is also a brief description of this in Breastfeeding
Review, May 93, p 347, "Mondor's disease (thrombosis of superficial veins),
most common during the ages of 30 and 50 (also reported among men), breast
pain usually with reddened, tender, hard cord usually unilateral on or near
the breast, not associated with nipple discharge."
