Dear friends,

I am interested if anything should be done in this situation (mom's
permission to post) Baby is 4 month old; she is very active and seems to
have a rather high muscular tone.
She spits up a lot. When she is put to the breast, she latches well but
immediately pulls away from the breast (still holding the nipple in her
mouth). It seems that is her compensatory reaction for mom's letdown. In
this position, she swallows rhythmically. Mom does not feel pain but is
concerned for her breast shape - baby is strong and pulls 3-4 cm away as to
the position of her initial latch. We tried different positions for
overactive letdown but the little one keeps pulling away. Things are better
when she is sleepy and the breast is rather empty. I recommended nursing on
one side 2-3 times in a row, and some pumping before putting baby to the
full breast. Mom works part-time and has to pump anyway.

Is something else can be done to teach baby not to pull? Now it is ok but I
am worried about time when baby get teeth?

I suggested keeping her close when she just napping at the empty breast -
may be baby will learn that closeness is not so dangerous.

Sincerely yours, Victoria Nesterova,

Kiev, Ukraine.
