As co-mother of LACTNET, I feel I need to reiterate. The problem of
downloads if you are on AOL is NOT with LACTNET, but rather with AOL.

Every year that LACTNET has been in operation, AOL has had SERIOUS problems
in the (Northern Hemisphere) warmer months.

My suggestion is for those of you on AOL to switch to another server if at
all possible. Having moved, and compared lots of different servers (I also
used to be on AOL many years ago), I have to say that the smallest servers
(local guys) are hands-down better than the big guns. Why? Because they
truly understand the importance of HELP lines. They not only answer their
phones on the 2-4th ring, but can speak understandably to computer
(il/semi)literates without making the person seeking help feel like an
idiot. IN addition, they are respectful of our desire for the ?@(%***###
machine to work when we ask it to!!

One episode took me 2 WEEKS to get a reply from AOL. The next time I
tried, it took 4 days, but I got a reply that was distinctly
NON-helpful--one of the many reasons I abandoned them and went with a local
server.

By the way, the local servers often are LESS EXPENSIVE than the big guns, too.

Both KB and I are sympathetic to those of you having downloading problems,
but we simply cannot help you fix the problem. It is not occurred at
LACTNET headquarters, nor did our system cause it. So sorry...
