Permission to post: Mom had HELLP syndrome and delivered early, vaginally, at 37 weeks. Labor was quick and relatively easy. Baby is now 14 days and has dropped from 6 lbs, 9 ounces to 6 pounds 2.3 ounces. Mom is feeding about 10 times in a 24 hour period and supplementing with SNS after a few feedings with formula. She is trying to watch for hunger cues. We did a weight check today and after a vigorous feeding, both sides, baby only transferred .4 ounces.

She is on her way to pick up a tincture of Goat's Rue and an electric pump with a plan to up the supply.

Has anyone heard of a reason that HELLP would affect the milk supply permanently, or does she have a chance of it kicking in? She is very healthy now, the swelling is almost gone, her bleeding is almost gone, she is eating and drinking well.

Thanks for knowledge!

Kristi
