One quick thing to check with this mother -- waht is her let-down/supply
like?  Could the baby be getting too much too fast?  Very fast flow and/or
foremilk-hindmilk imbalance (they usually but not always go hand in hand)
could cause the infant to have bloody stools.  Since he did well on the
bottle, maybe she could try bottlefeeding her own milk and seeing how that
goes?  The problem might not be the milk but the delivery mechanism for this
baby.
 
If he does well being bottlefed mother's milk, block nursing, nursing
standing up, etc. could be good techniques to help this mother downregulate
her supply so her baby can feed from her breasts again.
 
I'm very interested in how this case plays out and would love if you had a
chance to let us know.
