Perhaps you could dig a little for the history of other professions. For
example, resp. therapists, OT, PT, nurses, and even doctors. For example, I
know there are different certifications for resp. therapists and there are
board cert. for docs. When/how did this evolve? That is, in the "old days"
every doc was a general practice/family doc. Also the evolution of the nsg
prof. from Florence Nightingale to degrees. The evolution of the nurse
practitioner from certificate to graduate degree programs. I would show that
the ibclc credential is already the gold standard and will be even more so
for the future, and that many consumers now recognize and ask for this.
Share your standards of practice and that this is the only way to address
malpractice. For the hosp and patient's safety, there should be a standard.
You can share that Louisiana has a registry of lact. consultants and to be
on the registry you must be ibclc. You can ask Karen Zeretzke more on this.
She is one of the lactnet facilitators. Good luck.
