Re the recent thread on mandatory separation of mom/baby - I have another
related question. We just had a wonderful BF conference at our institution,
with Karin Cadwell. One session we brainstormed ways of dealing with
patient ed issues (a big deal at our hospital where only 7% of moms go to
childbirth ed classes). One thing everyone united around was the problem of
visitors. We all agreed it was almost impossible to teach BF stuff in 24 /
48 hours when you have to fight your way to the bed and mom does not want
to bf in front of Uncle Joe. But what to do? Is restricting visiting a good
or a bad thing? Most of our rooms are only 'semi private' so mom has to
deal with room mate's visitors' noise too. Not to mention TV.... We
discussed really 'strict' visiting policies. Any thoughts?
