Rob asks:

<< A mom asked me how long breast milk can
be stored at room temp. I told her 4 to 8 hours depending on the
room temp. I know I once read the durations at different
temperatures but can't remember wear. >>

According to the study Pat Bull and I did ages ago, the bacterial count of
freshly expressed breastmilk at room temperature at 10 hours is not
significant different from the bacterial count of milk from the same mother
that has been refrigerated for 10 hours.

The reference is old, 1987 -- International Journal of Childbirth Education,
August, 1987.

Therefore, according to the study we did, you can save freshly expressed
breastmilk at room temperature for at least 10 hours. (Room temp being about
72 degrees).

We did 10 hours because we were working on the principle that women who lived
in the suburbs and took the train into Chicago for a commute, and didn't have
access to a refrigerator, might have their milk out for at least 10 hours.

Nothing like being territorial here....
