Sarah, in these situations, I find that the nursing supplementer works very
well, as long as the baby is able to latch.  Another thing you might try is
using a dropper, or syringe (which I don't use, because they frighten me!) at
the corner of the baby's mouth and see if the flow encourages the baby to
draw the finger in.  How is the mother's milk supply?  If it is low, that may
account for the biting and lack of suction.
