HELP! Anyeone out there familiar with skunks, and their odor, I need your
assistance.

Last night just before planning to hit the bed, I let my Siberian Husky
out. She was going nuts at the door. Something was in the yard. She
raced out to the farthest corner of the back fence and then came halfway
back, rolling on the ground and especially trying to clear something off
her muzzle. I thought at first she might have encountered a porcupine. So
(mother hen that I am), I raced out to see if that was the problem, with an
eye toward hauling her to the ER vet we have who sees people after hours.

Ten feet from her, I got this waft of UNHAPPY SKUNK! ACK!

I dashed off to the open-24-hrs-day grocery store and hauled home about 2
gallons of tomato juice, having read somewhere that it helps. Well, she
does NOT like the tub in the new house and so after fighting with her, I
finally managed to get her into it (she weighs 65 lbs and is VERY STRONG,
esp. when she does NOT want to go somewhere!) I hosed her down with the
tomato juice and lots of water and she smelled BETTER when I dried her
down.

HOWEVER, this AM there is STILL a rather obvious skunky odor in the house
(I am currently washing ALL my clothes, too! I can still smell it on my
hands (ugh) and while her muzzle (previously white) now has a rather
orangey looking color, she has been relegated to the outside for the ENTIRE
DAY, in hopes that time and the lovely cool(er) breezes today will
dissipate the problem scent.

Is there a BETTER way to get rid of this distinctly non-doggy odor? (PS
Normally, she does NOT smell doggy, just nice).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

PS The person who sent me the recipe for using very large zucchinis: your
recipe is being used tonight. Yesterday, I went outside and hauled into
TWO HUGE samples plus three reasonably sized ones. Many thanks for the
recipe!
