Karen: I would love to see the references backing the "risks" of bf
after receiving IV IG. One of the key components of human milk is IG, so
what if more IG gets into milk? Theoretically, the higher levels may
cause symptoms, but the baby could be watched for them. In all
likelihood, the oral absorption of the increased IG would be minimal. As
for the issue of pooled blood product and transmission of blood-borne
diseases, it was established long ago, during the HIV scare, that immune
globulins are processed in such a way that viruses are not transmitted
(unlike blood transfusions). Hope this helps, Alicia. [log in to unmask]
