I understand and sympathize completely with people who are not making money
in the field (I suspect there are MANY Of us who qualify for that!) who do
not feel they can afford to join ILCA. But you don't have to be a member
to get JHL. If your primary reason for joining is simply to get the
journal, you can do that by itself. It is LESS expesnive than being a
member. Write me privately for the price (since prices = advertising and
that is NOT allowed on LACTNET!) :-)

Also there are other journals to consider as well. Most of them are less
expensive than JHL.

The other thing to keep in mind is the importance of scanning at least one
year's worth of ANY JOurnal before deciding to plunk down good money for
same. If you know someone who already subscribes and/or a local library
does, look at the journal(s) in question (several issues worth) and note
how many articles would have been REALLY HELPFUL for you. If the count = a
minority, do not buy. Read them at the library or borrow from a friend.
The cost of occasional xeroxes (for your own personal use) of key articles
will nearly always be far less than the subscription fee.

Just my opinion (I read LOTS of journals, but subcribe to only 1 or 2 and
even those are reviewed EVERY YEAR to see if I still want to pay for them.)
