The main differences is amount of education/training/experience. I'd
compare it to someone who gives first aid (bandaids) and a doctor (stitches
you up :-)
For instance, a LLL leader applicant goes through a long process of
training, much longer than a four day course, and is a certified leader
before she is allowed to phone counsel. LCs put in many years of education
and thousands of hours of experience. I don't feel 4 whole days begins to
compare with training for LCs or LLLL. It's a start, and will make the
nurses better at helping moms on the floor as they work L & D, PP, nursery
or LDRP.

The main problem is that I see the hopsital will be responsible if the CLE
misses a sign that baby is in trouble and reassures mom inappropriately. Or
doesn't ask the right questions and therefore doesn't get the important
answers.

There could be legalities involved depending on how the hospital is
promoting the program. What terminology ae they using? Trained lactation
educators or Lactation consultants?
 Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
