Hello everyone,

I talked briefly to the mom again today whose taking Colace and baby may be slow
weight gain. I'm going to call her back later today and may go see her for a home
visit. She said that yesterday the baby weight 5 lb., 4 oz. So she is up one
ounce from 5 lb., 3 oz., on Sunday (same scale). Her birthweight was 5 lb., 9 oz.
(probably not the same scale) 9days ago (my apologizes, I thought 10 days
before). I'm glad to see at least that she has gained instead of lost. I need to
vent though, I'm getting very frustrated with the advice that this woman is
getting from her MD. He is not happy with weight gain and now has told her to
give a bottle of formula after every feeding ! AAARGH! Okay, so moms supply
might be low. Well, I guess his advice would be to ensure that it is - by
completely destroying what supply she does have!

He isn't even considering that she might've lost another ounce on Monday and then
gained two the last couple days. Well, I guess now I'll have to get on the phone
and dialogue about "what to say when your information differs from the doctor's
advice."

Several of you have written that infertility problems can affect supply
sometimes. I think that may be what is going on here. I could really use help in
this area. Is there anything that can be done? Has anyone out there had
experience with this? Can an IBCLC help her with this?

I think it's just going to be one of those days. Thanks for any help.
