Congrats on your grandson!
Try getting his chin right on the breast, with the nipple gently resting
on his philtrum (the little ridge between nose and upper lip.  This
usually makes babies open wide.
If he is keeping his tongue way up, then perhaps a few seconds of
fingerfeeding before attempting to latch will help.
