And my concern is that babies who eat like this may set up a life long
pattern of eating huge amounts per meal which in turn negatively affects
digestion. Is this also a pattern that leads to obesity? digestive problem? Are
there any studies that address this? Or does it matter more what the total
amount in 24 hr is?

I have the same concern, Barbara. Without any solid evidence I think we can
still say that it makes sense that this could happen. We do have a whole
generation of children in which overweight and obesity is really obvious. I am
sure this is a web of issues, but certainly this could be one of them. If
nothing else, we know that the child's blood sugar response in terms of spiking
and dropping would be significantly different, and I do explain this to
parents. We know that baby brains run on sugars, and a nice, more even supply should
work better than long periods of "drought" in a rapidly growing infant. The
other part of this is that these babies may only experience physical
contact, snuggling, etc, for 4 times in a 24 hour period!

I do find it all both scary and sad.

Peace,
Judy
